Hockey Rinks For Girls
Or sports not important in Canada?
Fran Rider, President Ontario Women’s Hockey Association and Greater Toronto Hockey League president John Gardner interviewed on CBC TV yesterday afternoon. The subject was the lack of ice time for girls and women hockey players.
The charge: Better time ice times are given to the boys and men hockey teams. The girls get the left over worse ice times.
Both Fran and John pointed the finger at the ice rink operators.
John suggested the Federal Government, Provincial and Municipal government must begin funding and building new hockey rinks. As new rink construction has been dead for the past 30 years.
Also outdoor rinks keep closing, because the ice doesn’t stay frozen out doors now a days.
Fully support John and Fran building new rinks across Canada. I’ve said the Government get building new hockey rinks for more than a decade here in Nunavut.
Even been saying mining companies including NTI (uranium ) who are building multi million dollar mines in the Kivalliq, should taking the lead building arenas at an even faster rate here.
What is good, is the louder voice coming from John and Fran. Who are waking up the governments and municipalities trying to get their heads around building new hockey rinks for kids β today.
Be it artificial or plastic βiceβ surface rinks.
Sadly Federal , Provincial/Territorial and municipal Governments won’t hear because Canada is hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics in less than 90 days. No plan building any hockey rinks for Canada’s youth.
There sure weren’t hockey rinks popping up across Canada prior to the 2010 Olympics. Meaning it’ll be a battle after the Olympics are gone getting new rinks built.
But it has to be done β for the youth today.
Thank-you.
Cheers
